When a woman becomes pregnant, a woman's body physiological processes are affected by rapid hormonal changes: everything is changing - both the endocrine system and a new organ, placenta, is developing and functions till the birth of the baby. Besides, usually women experience a variety of changes to their sensations: change in the taste of food, feeling of hunger, nausea in the morning, vomiting etc. They are influenced by impulses coming from the new life - child, and initially it acts as an allergen or a foreign object in the woman's body creating a response. Processes are particularly active until a protective barrier to fetus or placenta is formed.

If a woman is healthy, she does not have to change her diet during pregnancy, but, if possible, it is desirable to eat organic food. The woman should try to avoid products that lead to stomach discomfort and bloating, heartburn, flatulence and strong palpitations. It is important to eat slowly, savoring every meal.

During the entire period of development, the fetus receives nutrients: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, amino acids and trace elements, from the mother. All these nutrients are needed for the functioning of every living cell, it affects both the metabolism and growth, and differentiation processes, participate in hormone production. Therefore, pregnant women's diet has a very important role in the fetal development. Different  periods of development require different nutrients for the fetus. If the mother takes unbalanced food before and after conception, then fetal development and pregnancy disorders in any embryonic stage of development can occur.

One of the most important substances generally contained in all vitamin complex for pregnant women is folic acid, which is often recommended by doctors already during the planning of the family. Folic acid provides the necessary developmental and growth rates, it promotes the brain development of the baby. Also, the future mother can feel tired, lose weight and appetite due to the lack of folic acid.

During pregnancy, B group vitamins have an essential role. Vitamin B6 protects the woman from pregnancy toxicosis in the first months of pregnancy. Most effective result is when combined with magnesium. During the pregnancy, the woman can' t get along without vitamin A, because the lack of it has a negative impact on the fetal development.

Pregnant and lactating mothers also should take the most essential trace elements: iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc and others.
